'60s Testi Weekend Cross project

Just scored this Testi. Technically not a moped, since there's no pedals, but so what.

Minarelli P4 engine. Four speed foot shift. Got it home, dribbled some gas into the Delorto carb and it fired right up!

19" wheels, giant-ass tank, and most of the hard to find parts to get it back on the road.

Gonna do a "rustoration" on it. Leave the rust, the original patina white paint, and do the tank to match.

Gotta find some fenders, seat, etc, but it'll be shiftin' down the road in no time...

I look forward to seeing your progress. That header is awesome, put a goodly pipe on the end of it!

Love the look of this bike

Nice score! Have yet to see a Testi I didn't like...this is one of the weirdest I've seen. Any model name/number on it?

Sweet!!! I'm so following your build.

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

It's a Weekend Cross model. Not sure of the year. Probably 62-63. Similar to the Grand Prix, but for trails and street. The upturned exhaust, fan-cooled cylinder, solo seat and rear shock covers give it away, and the serial number has WEC in it. 70's models had the square cylinder fins. mine's roundy.

They also had a weird dual exhaust on some of them. Long pipes on each side with a 2 into 1 head pipe.

I'm gonna go with more of the Grand Prix look.

Anyone want to have a "tank rust challenge"?(edited)

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

Dang . Is there anything left of that tank , besides the paint ?

I've never seen that much crud come out of a tank before .

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

Better line that tank a few times with red-Kote! I’ve seen a cb100 tank that had about that much in it. As long as there aren’t any soft cancer areas you should be ok.

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

It's still solid with no leaks. Most of the crap was solidified fuel. That shit stinks. Have to leave my clothes outside so I don't stink up the house.

Got some Caswell epoxy sealer drying in it right now.

Caswell : absolutely one of the very best .

Many highly favorable reports on it's effectiveness over the years .

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

I've used Caswell in many tanks. Coats over rust, holes, and never peels off. You could probably make a clear tank with it. It's the best.

Tank stripped to bare metal, then thrown in the top secret way-back machine to get the patina to match...

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

So, over a year later, and I finally have time to work on this. Been slowly gathering parts, and now it's time to get this bastard together.

Decided against the rusted-out look, and went fancy, instead.

I'm waiting on some new 11g spokes from Worksman cycles. Hopefully they don't shut down before they ship 'em out.

But here's what I got going so far...

That is looking fantastic, top work.

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

Stoked to see this progress, even more stoked to see the next post, get this thing on the road!

Beautiful

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

I had a Fantic Broncco minibike with the Minarelli P4 on it. They RIP! Enjoy t.

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

Puch EBR forks are on. Using them because they're similar looking to baby Ceriani GP forks, way cheaper, and the original stock forks are pretty trashed. Fork stops line up.

Painted the tank. More mock up pics:

Probably one of my favorite builds. Keep up the progress

Re: '60s Testi Weekend Cross project

Here's my front hub. Dual drum Grimeca. Converted to sealed bearings. Waiting on axle reducers from treats, and spokes that still haven't shipped yet from Worksman.
