but red matches the chain! you gotta coordinate

I know they aren't CV carbs

but like, if you had a common airbox that might smooth out some issues

just conjecturing

i do want to put a filter on it, which means i'll probably do a couple pipes into some kinda thingy that i can put this k&n filter i have on. i don't really think it'll do much for it though, because each carb is kinda it's own deal when set up like this, meaning going into a single intake before the reed block.

i'm trying to keep them symmetrical just for my own sanity, but they really don't need to be at all.

also, this is crazy haha. the two carbs thing is whatever, but your gonna have two totally different intake timings to work out, one with the cylinder intake port/piston and the other with the reed block. what I'm doing seems complicated, but it's child's play really, especially compared to what you're up to

woof, this thing is gaudy.

IMG_20200312_191131.jpg

it's pretty well built for how cheap it was, though!

I'm gonna get some drain cleaner and unred the main body part and the plate that holds the throttle tube. The tube itself will be covered by the grip and the wheel with the bearing hides under the cover, which I shall either scuff to heck or paint or do something else to make it not see through, so those can stay red.

this should do the trick!

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

Alex has that one on his derbi but in gold. I can’t remember what we swapped out, but something inside it got razor sharp and wrecked cables in a few days. (edited)

it was the gold anodizing, nothing that bling should be on a moped

I wish I could unred this thread so I could have the joy of reading it again for the first time

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

haha, not sure how i missed this but terry dean is still gorgeous and builds awesome garbage bikes.

plus free bonus round getting to hear people talk about how hardleys work like...

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

How do harleys work. Seems like some sort of weird shit going on. 2 rods, one crank super shitty output for their displacement and some how lots of torque? The fast ones still sound like a bunch of farts inside a sewer pipe.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

harleys are cool, basically tractor technology.

anyway, unreding worked, but now I'm trying to decide if I should do a better job to not make this thing ugly.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

Nobody knows actually but they mention farts in a sewer pipe in the patent

I was just trying to find an excuse to pull that out of my meme cellar, dust off the label, look at it with a long wistful glance, pop the cork, smell it, say 'mmm 2008 was a good vintage' ...

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

eh fuck it, we staying ugly, the whole bike can't be beautiful.

I just gotta cut the throttle tube down and put everything together and maybe I can ride this thing soon? hopefully?

The fact that you still have that gif after all these years is amazing.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

didn't actually have to cut the tube down after all. looks gr8, can't w8

IMG_20200313_221748.jpg

what do you use to lube up your grip to slide it into the throttle tube? I use whatever I'm drinking at the time.

In this case, pee.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

Compressed air or hairspray

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

I hella miss having a compressor

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

I find spit is more lubricant than coors

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

Tru, but coors dries sticky and kinda helps the grip stay in place.

back in the day a black sparks was the way to go since sparks and mopeds went hand in hand. these days it's more of a use what u got thing

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

rode it up and down the street just now, but it was leaning out pretty bad and I had to manually choke it. then I remembered I hardly put any gas in it. popped the float bowls and sure enough, it was running out of gas haha.

I'll get gas in it and shoot a video, it feels like it's gonna be pretty fast, but then again I haven't really ridden a fast bike in like six months so I kinda forget what fast feels like.

it's a little lean, so I'm gonna upjet until it four strokes and start backing it off until it's happy.

the exhaust looks great! I uh completely missed that until now.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

thanks! still hoping it doesn't get too hot on a real ride.

here's a video. I didn't have anyone around to shoot for me, so it's basically street view.

you can see me try and start it with the switch off at first, haha. it starts pretty easily, which is nice. it's not really a bike you wanna spend a lot of time trying to start with the stupid clutch lever placement.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

Ha! that coaster brake is so sick! I really like how clean the handle bars look with the bare right side. Congrats on bringing it back to life.

Re: purple pain, full rigid maxi build

ᴛᴇʀʀʏ ᴅᴇᴀɴ /

yeah, it's worth the awkward clutch location to have nothing on the bar haha. wish I could ditch the front brake to lose the right hand lever too, but it kinda needs it, especially since I kinda ride like a jackass.

the road in the video is one long hill, tho it looks flat in the video. camera's pointed down the hill, some of the bikes we have here struggle coming up but pp didn't seem to mind. I can't wait to get it dialed in.

voltage regulator and tail lights are on the way, that and tuning and I guess it's pretty much done? we'll, I plan to recover the seat, but that's later.
