Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

So one popped up near me. 2003 model. Going to try to check it out this weekend. Average moped price.

Are these any good? Weaknesses? Aftermarket parts available? Performance parts?

These were made in India, right? What engine/transmission do they have? Should I run away, or hurry and scoop it up?

Not too sure I think it's a za50 clone

I do have hero puch 64cc kit. It bolts right on a puch or tomos. Same stroke. So aftermarket availability.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

The Hero turbo sport is made in India by Hero motors they are a cone of the Puch Austro-diamler. The motor is a kick start with a 65cc top end. If the price is right I'd go for it.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Might be the same engine I have on my bike. Check the magdumb build thread I have and see if it looks the same. Crazy engine but pretty cool at the same time. Here is the engine I have.

That hero kit bolts right up and almost matches the transfers perfectly.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

I can get it for $500. That’s more than I would normally pay for a plain moped, but this ain’t no Maxi. I don’t know if that’s good, bad, or otherwise. It is complete, and supposed to be running.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Gonna go pick it up this morning. At least I’m gonna check it out. I’m not sure if it’s the 3.2 hp 35mph 49cc version or the 4.2 hp 45 mph 65cc model. The ad says it does 45 mph, but the speedo is in KPH only. Supposed to start easy and run good. We’ll find out in a couple hours. It’s over 100 miles away.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Super jealous. That bike looks sweet!

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

They are dope , best 1 speed e50 clone out there . Handle like that fuckin promo video on youtube , get ready to highfive and powerslide like a boss

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Just got it home. Gonna go unload it now.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

I bet that will be fun, is it running? I'd rock that for sure, keep us posted, it's boring here in the great white north! :)

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

I aired up the tires, hit the choke, and it started second kick, just like it did when I went to see it. Ran it around a few blocks. Runs flawless. All electrics, including blinkers work. Rides cushy yet agile. Topped out around 55kph before a truck pulled out. What’s that, around 35mph I think,? so right where it should be. Out of my 19 bikes, this is the only one I’ve bought running, and with a full tank of FRESH gas. It’s also the most I’ve paid for a moped, at $500. I’m sure I could have talked him down further, but I opted not to try. The poor old man (80’s) had been given the runaround by two previous “buyers”, and he was losing faith in humanity. Plus we really hit it off, and my wife and I just hung out for a couple hours talking. His brother is dying, he’s in kidney failure, recent dementia, and he’s having a tough time with it; they’re very close, he says. He needed someone to unload on, and I’m glad he felt comfortable enough to talk to us. We talked about life, and death, and God, and family, and (his) first loves, and bikes, and cars. It’s important to be available when the opportunity comes up to help a brother who is hurting. I hope I was able to be a blessing to him, in some way. We could all use a little more of that today. I made a new friend, and scored a kickass moped. Best $500 I’ve spent.

Love your neighbor.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

^ Good man, best $500 you ever spent, for many reasons. We all get old, life changes, and we have to sell our toys, you helped out a fellow rider, the money spent helped him, but knowing it is going to a young man who understands bikes made it easy to sell it to you. I look at my projects and my runners, I want to sell most, but not to randoms, as I love the old machines, I want to sell to young people who will ride them, have the same fun I have had, hard to do today. Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Congrats! Always wanted one of those.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

lol that cricket helmet

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Must have had that road greased up to get those things to spin the tires, lol.

Hell yea it has the goofy headlight fairing. Ive been wanting to find one to put on my AD. Imo these bikes ride like a land yacht, so comfy. Good luck finding parts for it though. Unless you know someone with one or an AD or have a friend in india, it might get rough if you need something specific to the bike. Nonetheless its sick.

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

So this has turned into my Go To ride. When the wife and I want to go out for ice cream by the river, or a ride around town, this bike is my first choice. Starts first kick every time. It’s so reliable. It’s got great low end torque for the hills, plenty of top end, and it’s so dang comfy. I was gonna flip this one, but now I wanna keep it.

I wish I could find a proper petcock for it.

Transfers on these don’t match a thing! The motors are cast in a dirt lot. When making molds they traced two phone books on either side so transfers are squared off. These have been rounded out a bit.

Also if it’s single or 2 speed the top crank for Z50 is correct, not ZA50!. You can install a KTM clutch quite easily in the OEM bell.

I ride a Hero everyday

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

My go to is the Yamaha towny, it is by far the best moped. I’ve had guys in Porsche’s second guessing their life choices when I pull up next to them.

Those transfers are square af. What an ugly casting. I take it they don’t even match the “Hero” kit Treats sells then. Mine is a single speed- what’s yours? Is the KTM clutch an improvement? I haven’t neede to take mine apart yet. It was running decent when I got it.

Keep it completely stock and running the way it was designed

It’s looking like that’s the best option, Ken. I was hoping to squeeze a little more outta it. But parts are hard to come by. The stock exhaust seems alright. It just seems I oughtta be able to let it breathe a little better, up jet, tune the clutch, and gain 3-5mph. But I guess 37 will do- it’s faster than my stock za50 Maxi and my stock+ e50 maxi, so I guess it’s good enough.

These are geared in such a way that if you go down a big hill, it just keeps the speed and goes way above its usual top speed. fun bikes. I regret not saving my old one from the trash

Re: Hero Puch Turbo Sport- Yay or Nay?

Will have a red/white one for sale in the Baltimore area soonish if anyone is interested.

For sale soon if anyone is interested.

I'd like to freshen up the top end. What gaskets fit these? I can cut a base gasket if I need to but what about the head gasket? Puch? I should just pull it apart and check but figured I'd ask here in the mean time. Treats does have the intake gasket.
