CDI timing is most happy at 1,2mm BTDC. make a piston stop from a old long reach spark plug, so easy to set timing this way. Got to tdc, turn in timing tool until it touches the crown, rotate the crank backward, turn the timing tool one full turn in (pitch s 1,25 so this gives timing very close), turn crank forward for piston t touch timing tool, place your flywheel on and rotate flywheel to spark initiation, lock that sucker down. DONE!
