Anyone ever see this? A part of the casting flaked off on the transfers. New build. Heard a “tink” a start up, crank seized. Piston ring broke and jammed the crank.
1st pic is normal.
Can the cylinder still be used?
Cheers
i dont really see it in the photo, but i've seen that happen. It sucks but usually you can sand or file it smooth so it doesnt peel up anymore and be OK. If its below the transfers then it wont affect performance at all.
OH NM I see it now, that whole bridge. whack. it shouldnt cause any trouble tho
Sometimes poor casting of the nik plays a big role. I had a dmp kit flake off at the exhaust port
I ran the bitch , did fine.
I wouldn’t worry about it! Go smear it

This is a cast iron cylinder, so there's no Nikasil lining.
From what I recall, the ring gap isn't close to where that transfer bridge is, but ring snag or bulge would be the only issue I could see.
Yeah. I’m worried about the ring catching an edge .

You likely know this , but , if you run it , be sure to chamfer all edges and double check that no ring ends cross those edges .
That said , I think it should run without a problem , unless you plan on testing the limits , so to speak . ;)
oh wait, the transfer bridge?
Fuck.
That might snag often due to the flat top.
It could be fixed with braze but it's tricky to do.
:(
Chamfer it and run it.
Or don't .
IDK.
I’ll add it to the every growing scrap art statue...
All are sold out on DR kits. I think I have an old one with a few scratches I can hone out.
Cheers
Run it 🤘
I would send it for a refund or replacement it it was new. I don't accept reject products flat out and take the necessary measures to get it replaced or refunded.
Send it back.
