the first part of any paint that's gonna fail will fail where it gets gassy, I agree looks like it was red. Though Idont think you're wrong either - looks like it was done well and probably many years ago. It's certainly possible to remove and replace decals, and dealers should've had access to replacements. I'd guess maybe a dealer special edition or gift to a daughter or something. Still very cool, and honestly I support you repainting it if that's what you want to do. I pretty vehemently disapprove of shitty rattlecan overspray on top of awesome factory paint, but if you're doing it outta love for the bike and not some vain attempt at cool, I dig
