Black finish

What is a black finish on cylinders? Mostly iron but aluminium as well(metra). Black oxide or something else?

Re: Black finish

You can buy a product called 'cast blast' or 'alumiblast' made by Seymour that are really similar to the oem finish. I dunno what it is but it's not quite paint. It's nice stuff.

Re: Black finish

Tnx. That is for restore new aluminum look.

I wonder about that black, dark, finish. Not sure what is it

Would be nice if black oxide / bluing works, its very thin, do not trap heat, will not chip like paint etc

Re: Black finish

Most "black" cylinders I have seen are just paint.

Re: Black finish

look up Fast Black. I've tried a few, and no paint does better on cylinders

Wouldn’t a can of hi temp black grill or auto paint be just as good and half the price? Or is it not glossy enough?

This must be it :

Re: Black finish

I've used regular Rustoleum on both cases and cylinders/heads with great results that lasted for many years .

Re: Black finish

I use stuff by this company with good results. They make an exhaust paint that is rated for higher temps.
