Looking for advice on buying a used moped

Hey All,

First time register/user, long time lurker.

I'm going to look at a moped this evening and pending condition, bringing it home with me. It's a 1991 bullet (I believe A3) based on pictures. I know what I'm looking for, but wondering if there was a way to gauge price. They are asking $700, down from $800, but from what I can tell it's probably around $500-$600.

Thoughts?

Looks clean, but if you want a bike you can build into something quick, it won't be that lil a3.

Cool. I'm not looking for anything quick. I've got a motorcycle for that! Looking for a quick neighborhood putter/fun time. Price matches?

Re: Looking for advice on buying a used moped

not $700

more like $250 a bit more if it had the side covers and the seat wasn't ripped

course i'm cheap and can still remember when u could buy non runners for $50-$100

now a days i guess they are worth what people will pay for em lol (edited)

I hear you. I saw 10 years ago, in much better condition, a sale post for $500 for the exact same model and make. I'm just trying to figure out value, and I suppose you're right, what somebody is willing to pay! I don't believe $700 is the right price, but believe today's climate $500 would be. Guess I have my answer!

See that there is paperwork if needed in your state!

Make sure it has the newer a3 case 4 mount points for the cdi. If it has 3 I wouldn't even consider it.

That is high w.o. paperwork.

Why? You can totally run a CDI on an a3 case with three stator mount points. This one works just fine:

I have one of those. It's the age of the casting run. The later ones just would have less wear.

Rather run oem cdi flywheels I have 3...

Yeah, that’s fresh, and all together. Thanks for the heads up.

FWIW, this one is under 500 miles and looks to be in good shape. Owners seemed like really nice people, looking to go to motorcycles. They have the paperwork for it, but I still think my guy is saying this is closer to $500 market being what it is right now.

uh...what?

A3 airsal kit + carb + pipe + sprockets => go fast. i built an A3 that would exceed 60mph.

back to things to check, super high level to ensure the transmission is probably ok:

pedal forward == pedaling forward like a bicycle

pedal backwards == engine turns over to start it

A3 transmissions are not 100% compatible with A35/A55, so parts are harder to find.

Good to know about parts, thanks for the looking for info.

I thought be an enabler. Find a replacement and I could ride a Harley worth more than my apt.
