If that's true it is really bizarre.....

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

It seems to be related to their "climate action plan".

"In 2006, Berkeley voters overwhelmingly endorsed Measure G, a ballot measure that mandated that Berkeley reduce our entire community’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80% below 2000 levels by 2050. The plan is designed to reduce community wide greenhouse gas emissions 33 percent below 2000 levels by 2020, and 80 percent by 2050."

I say, good for them for trying to stick with their plan.

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

We're banning natural gas by 2030 i believe. The winning of natural gas has been causing earthquakes for over 15 years now so its about time something is done about it.

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

Really, this is interesting, as I thought nat gas was one of the cleaner fuels, if going to electric though, especially for heating in cold climates, it is going to be very expensive, and has to be generated somehow, will be cool to follow how they do that.

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

HaHaHaaaaa! Banning natural gas...…...…….where do you think you GET yer electricity?

Fossil fuels, of which NG is the cleanest.

One of our wonderful new generation of congresswomen has the right idea

EAADED9C-8DB2-43BC-A6BC-7F9AA4F99AC1.jpeg

Seriously though, energy cannot be made only changed from one form to another!

That picture as well as other pictures and videos of perpetual motion generators are faked.

Nuclear energy uses more energy to produce then it produces, it’s subsidized by the government, uses oil/diesel power equipment and contaminates earth during the mining and processing as well as accidents and of course trying to get rid spent materials,

Solar energy and wind energy needs rare earth materials that are mined and are very highly toxic to produce/recycle and when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing you do not have any energy being produced, water power and dams are about the least polluting (after all the energy and pollution it takes to build a dam and generators, transformers, distribution etc.) but damming and hot water being discharged ecologically changes the landscape and kills/killed many species of fish and wildlife and no water no power,

There is really nothing we can use as an energy source that doesn’t come from the earth, contaminates, pollutes and kills something,

Probably going to end up like Solent green when you got a pedal power your household and in other ways too.

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

This is just so odd to me, gas is one of the cleanest burning fossil fuels, nuke works, but potentially dangerous, solar and wind are cool as is wave power, but not enough for all of us on earth. Once again our numbers as a species dooms us, the planet will be rid of us at some point, no matter what Cali does, they buy their juice from places that use polluting ways to generate it, green on paper, not in the real world. It has to come from somewhere, be grateful to be alive now, not in 100 yrs.

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

In 2016, natural gas passed coal in percentage of power supplied in the U.S. at 34%.

Nuke is around 20 per cent.

I am really surprised when I see this point brought up because I've never been given a credible source to back up this claim. I am an electrical engineer, and while I don't work in power distribution I interact with people/professors who do and nobody I've spoken to agrees with this claim that it's more harmful to create clean energy solutions than burn pollutants to make power. I mean, go to Wikipedia and look at the table of CO2/kWh by energy source. It takes 20 seconds to google this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life-cycle_greenhouse-gas_emissions_of_energy_sources

>and when the sun isn’t

> shining or the wind isn’t blowing you do not have any energy being

Google smart grid technology. All power grids are shifting to this model, batteries are the future. I love when people bring this up; do y'all think engineers don't know this? Do you think we make models that don't account for this and are just surprised when the solar panels stop producing electricity when the sun goes down?

Dams pollute about the same as solar panels do (and more than wind turbines do). The latter have very little to no ecological effects.

Re: Not shocking for this city..... Banned natural gas....LOL!

You really do just eat up whatever shit they serve you on fox news... what you are looking for is called a life cycle analysis- an engineering assessment of the total impact a product or process has over its life cycle including production (raw resources, infrastructure, etc), use , maintenance and eventual dissolution. Yes, obviously wind, solar and nuclear all require energy, resources and machinery to construct - but do you think natural gas and coal infrastructure just what, pop into existence out of thin air?

Granted, environmental impact is a multifaceted problem and many of these analyses have to rely on quantifiable data like CO2 emissions as opposed to other impacts like you know, removing entire sections of a mountain, destabilizing large areas underground or dumping thousands of gallons of crude into an ecosystem, but no matter which way you slice it fossil fuel have impacts that are orders of magnitude higher than cleaner energy sources. Plus solar/ wind/etc and how they can interface with our power grids are comparatively new technologies with lots of room for improving efficiency and reducing impact- not to mention a much higher potential for sustainable job creation (jobs that wont knock 15-20 years from your life expectancy)

The climate is being destroyed before our very eyes- it's a scientific fact- and all you can think to do is whine about politicians who are actually trying to do something to revert it. Stop watching fox and go get an informed opinion.

You mean mining?

If so, I could see that.

Gas is contained under pressure.

Releasing that pressure would cause the tectonic plates to shift over time and thus earthquakes.

California borders the San Andreas fault line.

I had two years industrial electrical power distribution motor/generation experience but never chose that career path,

I’m all for making using any kind of new power source, and perhaps one of the oldest electrical storage was a dam holding water or not being too far from Niagara Falls, and if those things were everywhere it would be great,

Most any power source you use that is not continuous you have to store it and battery’s no matter how advanced they are getting do destruction to earth,

Everybody talks Co2, there’s a lot more that pollutes then just co2 (plastics for one)

Just making one electric car battery does ecological damage from mined earth products not to mention the rare earth and plastics needed to make motors/generation so how much mined and plastic stuff would house battery worth of storage use? Most people have a car or two, a house, lawn mower, maintenance equipment, maybe motorbikes/atvs and or boats ,

One problem with current (lithium-ion) battery production, (a battery that weighs around 1,000 pounds and is the single most expensive component in a Electric vehicle) is that the metals to build the battery are mined in just a handful of countries, using methods that are far from environmentally friendly and of course other non-nature friendly components

How about making solar cells, windmills? More rare earths and more plastics more Energy to make,

Large electric vehicle battery’s use a lot of energy and other stuff to build the batteries and of course the build the vehicle, comes from where? and we’re just talking about one car not a whole household/lifestyle and or with new “green” homes having to be built,

California and western states are some of the more ecologically damaging states in our country, rivers that used to run to the ocean and Salton Sea no longer go there to take care of the enormous populations that shouldn’t even of been there to begin with that are there now due to the invention of air-conditioning (another huge waste of energy)

Look how we contaminated even outside our earth (ain’t technology great?) in just a few decades,

E9615E51-A9C3-4D95-8A56-843D5DC8D9A2.jpeg

Everything we make, every new technology takes away from the earth as well as humans themselves take away from the earth,

So many countries are overpopulated, no matter what USA and Europe does to be perfect the rest of the world will not be able to and not only that they will be polluting more by more mining and making all this stuff for us so we can be perfect,

And at the current population growth about 90 million per year we will use up all our fossil fuel‘s as well as any new technology probably in decades not centuries so just to ban one thing is not gonna stop anything, they’re just banning it to make themselves feel and look good

Truth^

The very reason more than ever is being spent on space exploration. The only way the human species can survive now is to migrate away from earth. Sadly we are on borrowed time.

It's not just Fox news reporting this , you can find the story on most news websites , even Bloomberg News which is just left of center in bias .

Also , Co2 isn't pollution , too much is bad sure , but it's not pollution .

Can't agree with you there,Ken! Psalms 104: verse 5 shows the Earth can always tolerate us.

Add to that Rev. 11: last part of verse 18

So don't fear for the Earth, it's here for good.

Don and Ken are both friendless, stubborn luddites. You could inject entire theories and papers on molten salt offshore reactors into their shriveled, frightened brains and they'll both "404" into oblivion.

I mean, there WAS a semblance of rational discussion for about .2 seconds until it went full "CALIFERNIALIEBRULSAREEVILBABYEATINGDEMONCRATSAOCSATANWORSHIPPERS!!1!"

And for the shitheads who don't know WHY theyre banning natural gas should go back to fucking school....Actually, scratch that. The US educational system got us here in the first place.
