anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

I know it's just a horizontal Honda clone with a weird frame but memories of us talking about them years ago started flooding back...talked to the guy for a few minutes about the bike.

REALLY surprised as to how big it was, it's taller than a grom. The guy loved the thing...I must admit it looked really neat in person.

No way we got more than a few thousand of these things imported. Talk about a unicorn over here west of Seattle.(edited)

Ive seen a few, but your right they are not super common. I dont hate them, but they are not my first pic of small bore bikes.

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Me neither, I prefer my Cub for a four stroke bike. But I have to admit that it's a cool reimagining of the horz' Honda platform. It looked comfortable too

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

there's one for sale on my local CL, outta baltimore. dude wants $2800 for it... hahahaha

i offered him $600 bc he said he needed it gone. told em i didnt mean to insult him but i didnt need it either and just wanted to help him. he replied and asked if i could do $1200

i was like nawwwww trick

neat, heavy

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

I thought there were over $2K new, but thats based solely on my crappy memory. $1100 actually sounds cheap despite it being a chinese built Sachs.

So whats everyone's feelings on the Lifan Pony?

(edited)

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

The sachs madass is built so shit that i can frequently buy them for less than 200€. They are all falling apart these days.

I would take that over a Madass! :)

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

remember?

Its like saying "anyone remember the Ford Escape?"

pretty sure they still make the madass

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

madass50 died in 2011. There were 125's made til '13 or 2014. There was also a 500cc and an electric concept version but no longer. could maybe find something similar on alibaba tho.

I always kinda hated em. crappy clone of a great motor on a weird frame, but not interesting weird, more like trying too hard and the chocolate starfish weird. And madass is about the dumbest name maybe ever.

"Sachs" is now SFM bikes, they don't really have much in common with the old german pre-2000s sachs, theyre instead just cheap shitty china small bikes. They now brand them "SAXXX". They had some pretty fast 2 stroke scooters but transitioned to mostly electric. even have an electric grom clone:

They didn't stop making the 50's in 2011. Thats when they changed the style a little and started importing them from a different company I believe. I have a 2015 50cc

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

huh. yea one just showed up for sale near atl, for like 600 tho so not really worth it.

All the info I could dig up there were 125's til like 2016 but i couldnt find a 50 past 2011. but youre right, even on wikipedia:

"As of December 2014, the Madass 50 is once again available in the US in 49cc form, via a new distributor, Excalibur Motorsports of Chino, California. It is CARB certified for sale and use in the state of California."

seems to still be a thing, separate from the SAXXX mentioned above and apears to be totally separate from sachs, entirely a chinese company selling chinese madasses wit the sachs name.

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Killer! yeah I got a honda mini motorcycle too, just an ole mb5. that's fun

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

I heard they were crap from day 1, The 50 only did 30mph, Cant beat a european moped or a 60s or 70s Honda.

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Yeah my neighbor had a Madass that he loved. Old guy really into small displacement bikes. He gave me a Grande and LTD for fixing his roof. Took me like 2 hours. The Grande was completely redone with a Malossi 65 and knobbies. The LTD was in a box...

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Right now the new bike in that category that I find the most interesting is the Kymco K-Pipe.

Looks like a toolkit holder

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

^ Could be, just an odd appendage though...? Honda did nothing without a reason, that is a stone fact.

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

You are correct. Original tool kit. Bike has 1600 miles. I have all the original parts and modded it to my liking. Super fun bike.

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Cool to know, kind of like the tool kit in the Hobbit, a little plastic thing in the frame tube under the rear rack, I did not even know I had it until this website... I like your bike, I would not have done knobbies, but they look good anyway, are they ok on the street?

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Work fine on the street. They are 50/50 tires. I just use as a commuter and the bike only does about 55 and not very powerful. If it had a bunch of power I would have used street tires but it's nice to be able to have the versatility to ride off road. I am up north in maine.

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Also hard to find tires for it

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

Only 55, sounds like my MB-5 back in the day, I kick myself to this day for trading it away.... it would see 50-54?ish? But I was lighter...lol. I asked about the tires as in my misspent youth I used to blast around on YZ-80's....and the knobbies sucked bad on the road! Crashed a bit, but on the golf course, now there, they came into their own! ;)

I almost rented one a few years ago, big wheel grom:

I wound up just renting a kymco scooter though, it was the difference between 150/weekend + miles, vs a scooter at 60/weekend I think it was, and no mileage limit because they didnt expect me to take a 40kph scooter over 1000km in 3 days... lol

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.

^ Those are pretty cool, there was one for sale near me, really cheap, but there was no title and it looked on the stolen side, no real back story, "this one dude traded it to me for a case of beer thing" I passed. :)

Re: anyone remember the Sachs madass? I saw one today.
