Like every person commuting on a bike is a person not driving a car. that's slowing you down less than if all those people were in cars with you.
This is pretty much the best argument for implementing decent bicycle infrastructure in crowded areas.
Sure, you might be driving a distance over 5 miles, but most people aren't. If you get everyone who only traverses 5 miles off the road, that would mean a significant decrease in car traffic all together.
