Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

I think its the soft thin foam they back the fabric with. It deteriorates and then the headliner fabric detaches from it. The wind just helps pull the already failing material down. My 79 Pontiac and my 83 Buick all had the same problem. My friends 93 honda also had a failing headliner

Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

My '97 Plymouth van has a failing headliner, I bought a box of thumbtacks in hopes of tacking it up, if that does not work, the xacto is coming out, along with the headliner, I hate the sagging shit! I don't even drive the thing, use it for storage, but god it drives me nuts.

I brought a stripped 97 Civic hatchback new. It was really loud inside with the windows down. I drove from CT to Asheville in August, shirtless with earplugs on. Next car was a Corolla with AC. The Corolla is real quiet with the windows down, even on the highway. 2003 and the AC is still real cold.

Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

Toyota ac is amazing, it still works in my 94! I don't use it often, but we had a bad spell this summer and it was nice to have. Interesting that people complain about road noise....it is a bit much on the highway, but you just turn up the radio..... I guess I always assumed the noise was part of driving? :)

Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

I would say it is because people like to cocoon themselves away nowadays. They feel safer with the windows up, holed up in their little piece of safety.

I like Rebelmobys AC system.

Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

I finally have a vehicle with working AC.

Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

I see people drive with windows down, AC is probably the biggest reason its fewer, and then you become accustomed to them up id guess.

Over 50 and not pouring rain my windows are down. Sometimes I forget em and my car smells pretty musty, so I leave em down to dry it out from the last time I left em down

Re: Why don't people drive with the windows down anymore?

I forgot a really big reason.. Economy!

It's been proven at freeway speeds it is more fuel efficient to run the a/c with windows up. Sounds strange, but mythbusters proved it.
