Punk

After my shitty fellow countrymen yet again decided to elect right wing fuckbags i'm in need of some good (modern) punk music.

Drop your suggestions here!

I dunno if it qualifies as "modern" but Propagandhi is always good for some righteous indignation

it does not

Some self proclaimed punk rocker I'm sure will tell you what they think.

I like to listen to personal and the pizzas

Re: Punk

Oh I love this thread!

Here’s some things coming out of Kansas City lately, I’ll try and touch on punk, hardcore, and doom; since those are my main squeezes:

Electric Chair- punk

Bootkrieg- punk/glam https://bootkrieg.bandcamp.com/album/boots-on-the-street-demo

Devil’s Den- Punk https://open.spotify.com/track/6wsYqieSguAiy2D8iUHCd1?si=Xwwpy6D3Q9Gyvz5YI5CpmQ

Spine- hc https://open.spotify.com/track/6LRuFQRmjg7IW0eCVvo988?si=yV-DpRqpR6u1u3GvFFKG-w

Inner Altar - doom https://open.spotify.com/track/3D5XRQckXtVLoIxXhro5XG?si=51onFWJKS9u5N0Mfg51N4g

34- hc https://open.spotify.com/track/5W4nfWhslTG1jCY5wjF4vH?si=ldhlSLVfS86FpSAZ0OB1uQ

Re: Punk

Also, there’s a sparsely attended Facebook group called mo-peds mo-punks that is exactly this thread. I don’t use FB much anymore, but I still check back from time to time.

Re: Punk

I go with the classics. Pretty much every Minutemen song still relates.

And I got into Clutch, 'cause my old roommate has been on their road crew forever, It isn't punk, but it's better than your average stoner rock.

And if you like them, check out the company band, dunsmuir, and green haven.

I didn't know there were "new" punk bands. Never heard any I liked.

Re: Punk

This isn’t new, 2006, but since I’m working in Ohio, I should share some of their finest:

Lol yeah you're right. But I think they're still playing for whatever that's worth. Pretty sure they're writing songs about drinking with their kids now haha

Re: Punk

If you really need NEW NEW, I've been jamming Sincere Engineer songs all winter. This came out 4 days ago

Re: Punk

Hopeless used to have so many great bands on their first few compilations. AAA🤘🏼, mustard plug, falling sickness, Samiam, scared of chaka, and so many more. That was one way us old folk found out about different bands we might like without the Internet. Infantile internet days at best.

Re: Punk

Probably Fred /

Today is Devo day in my county where devo came from. They like Chrissy Hines of the pretenders came from Akron, Cuyahoga Falls area, summit co. and were founded in 1973.

Media is trying to promote the group so they could get inducted in the Cleveland rock roll hall of fame.

In the 70’s they were more punky before whip it and other commercial songs, MTV etc.

This is not that good but this is kind of how they used to be like

Re: Punk

DEVO has always been so badass. I like to jam Madness sometimes too, also a swell outfit👍🏼

Re: Punk

Shit i don't know any major punk bands. I mean pre covid I would still make a mess of local shows but I dunno anyone new in the last 5 years. Damn, im old.

Re: Punk

Actually, modern Propagandhi fucking rips.

Re: Punk

DeVo had so many great, but virtually unknown songs. "Penetration in the centerfold" is pretty hardcore for the late 70s.

Re: Punk

Probably Fred /

Yep DEVO had some good stuff but I got rid of album collections like a dummy and now it’s hard to find much more then hit songs

I got turned on by devo somewhat in mid 70s when I saw a short subject between movies in a theater which was movie like video by Devo with them and or other people like wearing diapers sticking forks into a toaster.

It was very weird, people in seats next to my brother and I were gasping while we thought it was pretty cool, I can’t find that movie video thing either.

Started to listen to Dr. Demento radio around that time too, he played all kinds of obscure nonmainstream Music which I still like

One should check out Dr Demento, you can go back to many years of programs and find all kinds of songs/stuff not heard very often if at all

Re: Punk

Mark mothersbaugh still does some interesting stuff, I saw him at an art show here like 5 years ago. But he ain't punk, certainly not modern punk

Re: Punk

I’m loving AJJ lately. Andrew Jackson Jihad not exactly punk, maybe a little, in lyrical content.🤔

I heard Trust Me on the radio a few weeks ago and have been all about these guys since. I got to work and pretty much immediately ordered the record.

If you are looking for something in the same ballpark, check out Rational Anthem. Gritty female vocals and all.

Daze and Days = good stuff

If you want to stay in that vein, Mischief Brew is also really good. Lead singer died like 5 years ago so I don't know if you can consider it new new but...
