WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

Probably a long shot but looking to buy a few things for my Garelli SSXL LTD. This is the one that's dark navy blue with gold decals and mags:

- Foot board (I think that's what it's called - covers lower frame near engine. This is what I'm really hoping to find.

- Headlight fairing: mine has a round chrome headlight but seeing in pics that there may have been a black plastic surround and a different style headlight.

- Rear toolkit (?): Looks like a tube that's mounted behind the seat.

Pic of someone's nice looking LTD that has all of this stuff:

LMK!

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

Bump in case anyone ...(current or previous LT owners) has knowledge about the LTD headlight parts (did all of them have the shroud? Was it on any other model?), foot board or tool kit...

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

Moped Lar (OFMC) /

Yes, they came with that black plastic fairing. I might have one but I won’t be home until Tuesday to check. I also have the black plastic foot board that covers the metal foot board. Again, I can’t verify until next Tuesday. We just moved to VA and all my parts are still at my other house in NJ.

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

ive got a 81 ssxl 2sp ltd with the headlight fairing you speak of. they also came on some model year monza gt. not sure what year they started on ltd's or what year they came out with ssxl ltd's. those headlight fairings are like hens teeth. i found an extra on ebay and paid nearly $100 for it shipped about 5 yrs ago. given the $ and desire to have one. its possible previous owner of your bike sold it, and replaced it with a regular head light. i do know over the 13 years of being on here, people have been on the search for those with little luck. i had a guy offer me $120 shipped for my extra. i passed because of a custom build i was working on. it was tempting.

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

Thanks for the info! Definitely sounds hard to find.

I'd be interested in any photos of these pieces (installed or not installed). Did that fairing have a spot for the speedometer or was that on a separate mount? Round headlight, right?

Lots of side / profile pics of the LTD's but can't seem to find one from the "on the seat" angle. I know at least some of the SSXL's had the Heuret (sp?) speedo in a metal bracket that sat in front of the handlebars...

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

round headlight, all in one mount. go to photo section on this site. look up garelli and you will see ssxl ltd, and monza gt pics.(edited)

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

Yeah, I've been looking at the photos. On the Monza's there seems to be a round headlight smaller fairing and a square headlight fairing (later?).

The "regular" SSXL's seemed to have had either the metal flat bracket speedo mount on the forks or this kind that looks like it's a plastic cup / mount that's molded into the headlight bucket. This one's on an LTD, but not sure that's original:

Mine is different than both those... all chrome, deeper round headlight kind of like a Batavus but no speedo hole. The original owner had lower straight club bars on it and removed the large fairing on the frame, etc.

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

@wes66 - thanks for the pics. Your LTD looks great! I wish mine was as complete. Is the LTD one of the three you're keeping?

@Jay - Yours should be a later (stock) SSXL and not an LTD, right? I'm assuming that the later ones like yours had that plastic molded headlight housing rather than the flat speedo bracket.

I'll add some pics of mine here... anyone recognize the headlight? Doesn't look stock to me. It also didn't come with a speedo / bracket from previous owner.

IMG_2454.jpg

I appreciate any help finding some of these things... Anyone have a photo of the SSXL toolkit / tube? Did it have a door or a cap on one end?

IMG_2455.jpg

Pardon the dust, just got it out for the spring and haven't cleaned it...and the under seat fairing isn't on it yet. Going to need some new decals too at some point. I see a guy on ebay selling them.

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

Yes you're welcome for the cockpit veiw of the speedo and these pics....

Those headlight covers were used starting about 1983 on SS XL not ltd. It should also have plastic cev controls. I have an 84 like that.

I know someone interested in reproducing vintage parts. My question about what you're willing to pay is NOT to price gouge but rather to gauge interest to see if its worth the mans time to make a run of these. I have two originals and would be interested in a couple more myself.

i understand, and at one time i would have been interested. im just getting out of collecting/fixing/preserving/restoring mopeds. it was fun for a long time, not so much these days.

Re: WTB: Garelli SSXL LTD bits

@e binoh not sure which ones i'll hold on to. i have a lot of cool bikes. shoot me an email in my profile, and we can discuss, any further questions you might have.
