peugeot 103 arcing why? how?

i have stock peugeot 103 and i just installed new internal bosch peugeot/ puch ignition coil, new points, new external condenser, new plug wire, new boot, new plug and my points are arcing quite a bit. when we try and turn it over by pedaling you can visibly see a bright blue arc across the points. i have the white wire off the new coil going to the point and a wire going from the points the the condenser. the black wire that goes the brake light and switches is ground by the nut holding the coil on. i have a nice blue spark of the plug but its also happening when the points open. any tips or ideas?

ive read that

1. it "could" be the wiring needs to be in parallel not in a series.

2. the condenser is bad (but its brand new so i dont know)

3. there is some sort of grounding going on (i couldnt find one)

so im pretty much lost. if you see something wrong in the photos let me know.

thanks.

Re: peugeot 103 arcing why? how?

I'd guess bad condenser/ bad connection to condenser? Ground the condenser to the engine instead of the frame?

peugeot 103 arcing why? how?

Fred Melonhead /

arcing is normal

(to some extent)

I am not sure why so many people are surprised by that

... but go ahead and test the condensor anyway

search to find the simple cheap and dirty method of condensor testing ... then do at least that

... (more sophisticated testing - requires more sophisticated testing devices)

Re: peugeot 103 arcing why? how?

ill try a better connection and ground it differently. thanks.

yeah i figured some arcing would be usual but it just seemed more than i would expect.

i really just wanted to see if anyone was going to say that my wiring was out of order

Look like the u bought isn't close enough to the magneto

this is true, that puch internal coil is close but the holes need to be opened up so it can slide out farther, as for the 11 yr time gap all og posters should post the repair that worked for the future searchers of help.

Ha . Wouldn't that be nice . I wonder if Derek will stop back in to update this thread .

And , I have to wonder exactly what Ryan is talking about . I think maybe the condenser , as that's the only part not in the magneto , but , who knows .
