Honda Hobbit - (Non-OEM) Replacement Gas Tank Options

Hi All - happy 2019!

My original Hobbit PA50II gas tank sprang a couple 2-3 mm holes this fall, and I'm just now getting around to doing something about it. I'm going to try doing a repair patch & POR, but if that doesn't work, I'm wondering what my options are. I'm more concerned about being confident that I won't get a gas tank leak than I am about using the original tank.

Does anybody have experience fitting an aftermarket tank on a Hobbit, other than the replacement PA50 tank on treats? I'm not opposed to a top-tank but don't have any welding equipment, so would need something that mechanically fastens.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/experience you can share!

I wouldn't use POR15 if it was the only 'supposed' sealer out there .

I've read and heard more bad reviews and horror stories than I care for .

I'd use the best :

And , have no worries .

I would buy the red used tank treats has. They say it's good ...it's good.

I have coated tanks, but I just plopped a Batavus Starflite tank on my dirt Hobbit and it's grand

You could mount a free spirit tank with basically a U bolt and hose clamp......it was originally mounted with a clamp on the Puch.

You can use pretty much anything with a petcock temporarily. Even something like the below can keep you going for 20 bucks. Just make sure that whatever you buy is narrow enough to let you turn the handlebars fully.

I second the Caswell if you want to repair it. I just used it on my Hobbit tank and it worked great. Just make sure you get the mix ratio correct and follow the directions.

I know you said non-oem but you can use a Honda NU50 tank and mount it on the rear rack. it fits perfect.

Re: Honda Hobbit - (Non-OEM) Replacement Gas Tank Options

Thanks for all the replies folks, lots of options to mull over.

I've seen a lot of top tanks, and also heard about people having success with the EBR crossbar from treats on hobbits. I like the idea (since no welding required), but I don't have a good sense of what top tanks would be best suited for the EBR crossbar on a hobbit, and its tough to get a feel for it based on a couple pictures.

Anybody have experience with specific tanks and the EBR crossbar on hobbits?

I'd love to approximate/replicate something like this if possible.

second link wouldnt load for me today but has recently in the past... prob a server issue today? anyway, I know others have gotten the jailing jh50 tank, which is basically a reproduction hobbit tank just takes a different gas cap

I plan to get one of these real soon. Whats weird is the shipping, its based on the weight you enter. i guess they expect you to know how much their box will weigh lol but gas tanks are light and it was like 30 shipped to my door last time i had a cart ready, didnt pull the trigger tho so I cannot confirm, but it's an option worth looking into if you want an easy fit/cheap tank

Re: Honda Hobbit - (Non-OEM) Replacement Gas Tank Options

a heads up, the china ones from SSR or wildfire and shit looook right and they do mount up but stuff hits and the covers dont fit. jialing and dayang should be ok tho.

Re: Honda Hobbit - (Non-OEM) Replacement Gas Tank Options

I have a spare tank that has no holes in it, just a quick clean and coat

That urban tank looks awful

totally different tank but i think the garelli SSXL tank matches the hobbit well. Here is a thread that uses an EBR crossbar + garelli SSXL tank on a honda hobbit:

here is an entire thread with top tank conversions (some are hobbits):

I have been using a dayang tank for years no rust yet.

Re: Honda Hobbit - (Non-OEM) Replacement Gas Tank Options

I have a Garelli SSXL tank on my McDonald’s hobbit, works well but with the set up it chugs gas... general 5star, G3 or Seabring tanks are big and would look nice
