Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

Okay thanks

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

I finally got it running today, but it still leaks gas out of the airintakw on the carb. So is there a way to fix? Also what aftermarket air filter and jet would be good for that?

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

good u got it running, yr float needle needs cleaned/replaced. take pict if u cant tell, also clean the needle seat, qtip or toothpick, run inline fuel filter as well. now what is a q tip, so how do i toothpick my, whats a inline..oh forget it.

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

It has a brand new float and needle

The float and needle are the "valve" that shuts off fuel flow. Like in a toilet tank. If the needle seat is dirty, you won't get a good seal. Do what pat said, and clean the seat well with a q-tip and toothpaste. It will polish it up. Also make sure your float height is proper, so it actually closes the needle.

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

Is the float supposed to be level exactly because mine goes up a little

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

I also have another question. Why does it seem like pedal mopeds are always harder to start than kick? Is there a way to fix that?

Yep. It should be level. You may have to bend the tabs a little to get it right. I'm not super familiar with Garelli or what carbs are on them, but the following pics are for a Bing carb and float. Should operate the same way.

These pics were in the Wiki. Feel free to ask all the questions you want, but I also encourage you to spend some time on that tab reading up on your moped and its components. There is a ton of really helpful information there.

By the way, good job getting that seal changed and getting it back running.

I can't confirm or deny this, but most of my mopeds start super easy. Like I can stand beside them and start em, with a quarter kick of the pedals, usually first or second kick. I have one or two that are pretty cold blooded, but a good running, well tuned moped should start easily.

How do you tune a moped

By doing just what you've been doing. Cleaning points. Setting timing. Changing plugs. Adjusting/ jetting carburetor. I don't mean performance tuning, just doing the things necessary to get it running well again. Giving it a tune up.

Okay

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

My moped says to use 32:1 but is it okay if I use 40:1 since the gas today is kind of different

This is the one I used on my garelli and it worked perfect!

Yeah, 40:1 is good, if you use a quality oil. Something like Lucas, or Klotz, or another good, reputable synthetic or semi synthetic oil.

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

On my garelli there isn’t a foam air filter there is a wire mesh thing and a plastic cover goes over it. Is there supposed to be a filter in it or is the mesh thing a air filter

Got a pic of it? Many mopeds only use a mesh screen for an air filter.

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

I will get a picture in the next hour, and what type of transmission/ gearbox oil should I use

ND30 for transmission oil

Re: 1982 garelli keyway seat

Is this the total air filter?
