Help me remove this clutch...

Christian Roberts /

NOS daelim (trac) dp50 engine.

I’m confused by the design. Tomos-like at first glance, but haven’t been able to get the clutch off. Don’t see a place to use a tool. I’ve tried heat and mallet. Confused by the hole on top of the case with corresponding slot inside next to the crank. Confused by the threaded/spiral gear thing behind the pinion gears. Need to ask for help before I get frustrated and break something.

Wisdom please.

big hose clamp & a nut driver still on it as a kickstand

It has a squared crank. It prolly got worked into a groove.

Aero krill soak and use a 3 jaw puller.

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

Just yank it off there. If it gives you trouble whap it with a mallet a few times. That looks exactly like a tomos a3 transmission, must have sold their old dies and tooling to daelim. That's kind sick actually.

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

That hole on top of the case is for an oil pump. The gear back there drives the pump

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

The clutch and bell are slightly different from tomos, unfortunately you can't just stick this clutch in an A3. Same design though.

all of the above and the bugger still won't budge. puller slips every time. i'm whappin away...nothing.

there's no way this should be this difficult.

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

by pict, u just gotta whack the bell clockwise to get it off that edge. holes on ouyer edge, once its loose should pull out pretty easy.

Ended up bending the arms of this gear puller...

Those type gear pullers suck. You need the beefier two arm puller.(edited)

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

Did you try heating the hub before pulling it?

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

I’ve gone at it with both, 3 jaw too.

baked the whole thing in the oven for a bit...

After you tighten down the center bolt, whack the head of the bolt with a hammer. If it still doesn't pop, tighten it down some more and whack it again if necessary. This method has always worked for me.(edited)

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

Baking in the oven causes even expansion. Use a torch on the clutch hub itself. I usually go for map as its much hotter.

This^ Do not heat the crankshaft, just the hub with MAPP gas. Get a good puller like Larry said.

could a bad needle bearing in the clutch drum have anything to do with this?

any links you can send me? I'm having a hard time finding these remedies.

I tried beefier pullers and they would slip. gave the wimpy puller a go because of its snug fit.

i'll try to get my hands on a torch

maybe?

An extractor bridge is an H shaped puller and ya make a jig to pull it off. Aero kroil is the brand name of wicking lube.

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

how did u do it?

Re: Help me remove this clutch...

Christian Roberts /

aero kroil seemed to be the missing piece of the puzzle.

same problem with the drive gears though, stuck on the countershaft. any thoughts on how to get those off? With the front sproket off i have a little room to work behind the gears.

found out that those one way rollers fit behind the larger gear on the countershaft, similar to tomos.

false alarm!
