this exactly. the brakelight comment is valid for post 78 ignitions I think. if there's 4 wires, and one is black and blue, then definitely true, try just grounding the blue/blk wire to bypass that issue.

But tom's right, the 2 most likely are timing - often sachs restricted their engines intentionally by setting timing waaaaaayyyy too advance, plus the 505's are notorious for shearing the woodruff keys which also ruins timing. and of course while in there clean the points anyway. If your woodruff key is sheared, your buest bet is usally just running no key, lap the taper and pressfit it on in the right location for the timing (see fred's guide in the wiki for more timing details). The key is usally just to line up timing anyway and not necessary.

And #2 is definitely the decomp. theyre also notoriously problematic with sachs. Search "505/1a performance" in the wiki, scroll down there's a section on blocking the decmp.
