Minarelli V1 starter clutch plate bearing failure

How do you suppose the ball bearing in the center of the starter clutch plate gets chewed up? I've got one that is ground perfectly flat to the surface and I suspect there's only 282 miles on this machine. Operator error? Someone holding the clutch lever in while the engine is running? The long leaf spring is hammered too, almost all the way through its back side.

Fortunately I was able to find a new plate and flat spring set.

Re: Minarelli V1 starter clutch plate bearing failure

Lack of lubrication, too tight of cable, someone yanking it to kill the bike, I also always ditch the spring under the starter plate. Ive seen the vents get clogged on the filler cap and the trans start doing all kinds of weird shit.

Re: Minarelli V1 starter clutch plate bearing failure

Thanks for the thoughts. I am replacing all the related parts with new and I'll keep a close eye on it from there. Thanks again.
