My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

I know it needs a new piston .The cylinder is slightly scratched but not gouged can i just hone it out and put new cross hatches and get standard size piston?

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

Maybe , but , measure the cylinder and the piston . That's the only way you'll know exactly what you have to work with .

post a photo. saw your other thread and if your compression is at 110 you should be running OK. Not as well as 120, but it should be good.

Don't go crazy honing this out until you check sizes like pd mentioned.

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

do another test: just take the airbox sponge out and see if it helps. Not a solution, just a test.

did you ever figure out your jet size?

You're running a lot of threads so without checking times on them. it's hard to tell if one's the result of another.

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

I think my compression was much worse than 110 i think i have a crappy homade compression tester ( actually i took it from school) i guess thats what i get from taking it. I post a picture of cylender(edited)

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

A good automotive machine shop can put it on a rod hone an clean it up but the cost might be higher then getting a new piston cylinder kit.(edited)

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

I originally thought i had a jetting problem but after looking i found out it was my piston so i have no problem with the carb. I attatched a picture.(edited)

Two corner chunks missing from bottom of piston.

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

Oh yea you need a piston an cylinder, maybe fatten the carb up some.

Since so many people kit bikes, see if anyone has a cylinder/ piston they'll sell cheap if you want to keep it stock.

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

I'd sure want to know where those corner chunks went .

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

Yeah you need both man. That things knackered.

Right?!?

That thing looks like the same shape mine was in before I kitted it. I was amazed mine even ran at all. I double captain Janeway if your looking to keep it stock. Post an add in the buy/sell section. Someone is bound to have something usable. Quick hone job, new piston, ripping.

You're right. Probably rattling around in the case somewhere. Yikes. This is when you wish aluminum was magnetic and maybe you could pull out little pieces with a magnet instead of cracking the case lol.

Re: My 1982 Honda urban express needs a new piston?

Do you have any idea why or how those chunks would have broke like that?

Maybe piston slap . One goes and takes out another kinda thing .
