Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

Here is my stock carb: (gurtner)

20200124_144724.jpg

I'm going to clean all the jets and parts and whatnot. It seems to be working fine but maybe if I clean it, IT WILL LAUNCH MY FAT ASS UP A HILL.

my only question is the gasket between the air box and the carb..... it disintegrated. Does it matter?

Still looking for a good carb and pipe setups to give this thing some umpf up a hill. (Like literally ever other moped rider who likes cheeseburgers) I'd rather not fuck with top end.(edited)

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

the gasket between the air box and the carb.....

Just cut another one from like material .

You think its a4? 2mm?

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

cheeseburgers and top ends go hand in hand.

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

And then what pipe.

Stock this thing goes 34 mph.

I'm fine with that..... I just hate pedaling up hills

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

maybe a launch lever, 34 is pretty good. leave top end alone. the gutner fits good..

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

You don't need to pair it with a new pipe if you don't want to man.. Regardless, every French bike that I have owned ran better and stronger with Shas. 15:15 being the magic number with the right intake.

ur just not gonna get any better performance with the stock carb unless you dive deep into porting n such, you are already exceeding stock top speed.

I'm not sure if variator tuning is worth it with a stock setup....perhaps ur clutch is slipping on hills?? All my frenchy's were pretty good on hills....

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

34 is pretty good!!

Absolutely check your timing - late timing will kill your power, but will still limp you up to those speeds on the flat.

variator tuning may help too if you wish to bias it for hillclimbing.

gurtner and stock derestricted pipe will provide you with may miles of trouble free riding.

That just doesn't sound like a good idea , at all . ;)

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

Ordered sha party from treats and some 60s jets... PUMPED.

From my experience and your symptoms, I don't think that is the avenue to go down. the stock variator tuning hits pretty early, So I'm guessing you are partly if not mostly or fully variated when you are experiencing your hill climbing trouble.

In your case, I think if you increase clutch slip by removing balls, it won't help. probably introduce a lot of extra heat.

if you lightened your variator weights, or had a launch lever as pat suggested, you could have full clutch engagement and keep in lower gearing longer to build up to whatever rpm you are actually making power.

and again, check your timing. I have had this exact problem enough times. if you are getting 34 on the flat, you should be able to go fast enough up hills where you couldn't pedal fast enough to do anything.

Cool.

I'm gonna get the sha on and the pipe back on and go from there.

Appreciate all the help my dudes

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

You peeps.

I've got my sha and clean pipe.

Gonna drop the engine to put the new intake on.... I have been reading a ton should I replace the stock reads?

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

I type like a teen. Sorry

Which brand reeds go best with the sha party intake on a 103 not kitted.

My searching isn't getting any new results

Re: Peugeot 103 u3 stock carb cleaning

Kind of silly, but replace your belt, they stretch over time and can slip. Maybe a change of gearing for more low end? 34 is very good, especially if you like cheeseburgers...

For the sake of science (also I'm waiting for parts to pile up)

I reassemble my clean carb and newly cleaned pipe....

I only had to adjust the idle screw and then .... bam! Better than ever!!

I didn't even try and the bike had a little more pep and a lot more top.

I adjusted the idle so that the belt only slightly moved..... I'll have to read the stock 103 tuning guide.

Does anyone have the 103 docs from the wiki that are dead links now?

Also here are the spare things I found in the box that I couldn't find a home for....
