Ye' Ole' E50 DMP + clutch shim problems

Wesley Ambrosini /

So I'm running a paper thin shim (on the circlip, closest to the crank) on my E50 clutch and the starter plate is far enough away from the clutch face to rattle.

Am I missing something here?

Is there a sweet DIY thang to do?

I'm thinking about ditching the innermost circlip and replacing it with a shim from the other side of the clutch, I don't know though.

I just rebuilt it and I didn't do the measurements because I'm a jackass

Measure twice and cut once!

So this is it with the circlip + .5mm rear shim

That's like an 1/4" left jesus

That’s your clutch being too thick at the friction surface for starting or sitting proud on the taper. The new three shoe clutches are real thick and puch kick start plates have been sitting proud lately. I’ve been known to sand back the friction material for starting to get that plate back to jiggly.

That is the opposite of my problem, I need to clutch to sit further towards the clutch cover so It will take up some of the space left between the friction material and starter plate

So even without the innermost shim there is still 1.7mm between the starter plate and the clutch

I'm not sure where to go from here and I'm wondering if something else went to shit in the assembly process.
