1981 NC50 Carburetor leaking gas

Hoping for some help on how to solve my problem of my carburetor leaking gas.

I have cleaned the legacy carburetor and replace the float and the needle within the carburetor. I have also had to replace the fuel line and the petcock and put an inline fuel filter on the fuel line.

When running the Express runs well and idles well. However, the other day i came out to the garage and found all the fuel from the tank had leaked out into a container i placed under the drain tube that is connected to the carburetor bowl.

Sounds like your float needle leaked by..could have got some trash in it

Re: 1981 NC50 Carburetor leaking gas

i cleaned the carb and replaced the float needle.

Re: 1981 NC50 Carburetor leaking gas

Gas had to bypass the needle for some reason and the float didn't shut off the gas flow ..

Re: 1981 NC50 Carburetor leaking gas

makes sense .

The float is held in place by a screw that allows the float to move up and down.

Is there a desired amount of movement the float should have based on how tight the screw is ?

Re: 1981 NC50 Carburetor leaking gas

The screw has to be tight enough as to not back out ..if tightened reasonably it shouldn't bind the float.that would be the place i would check to see everything is in order
