Im new to this

Hello,

As you can see I am new to this. I have worked on cars a bit, but recently I said f**k it and I got a moped. I probably paid a bit too much for this, I got it for 160. I knew there would be some problems with it but I like projects. The guy said I needed; "coil and plug to run" "needs output shaft for the sprocket".

I got a 1981 Garelli Rally Sport SL. I have found the following parts I know I will need: new spark plug, chain, boot for the spark plug.

I know that I need something for the output shaft and that 11 point sprocket which I have found but I am not sure how it all goes together. Do I need a new Pedal Spindle for the 11 point sprocket to be attached? I'm having a hard time finding a manual that actually helps.

Myron's Mopeds has some drawings too

You'll have to split the cases and replace the output shaft. You shouldn't have to do anything with the pedals. Seeing as you have to split the cases, you might as well rebuild with new bearings and seals.

Re: Im new to this

Thank you! That first link is really helpful

Re: Im new to this

Ok, so I havent been able to find an output shaft, this wouldnt be a pedal spindle?

Nope, that's where the pedals attach. Depending on where you're looking, it's gonna be hard. You are probably best off looking for a whole NOI parts motor

Re: Im new to this

does the motor run? maybe you could graft a sprocket on there, I got and idea.

Bad idea. Garelli sprockets vibrate more than any other moped I have seen. Guaranteed that is what caused the shaft to break off in the first place. Anything welded on would have an even shorter lifespan. Check out myrons mopeds, he might have what you need. But be very specific and send pics, probably the part number from the repair manual too.

If he doesnt have it, maybe moped junkyard does. They have a lot of garelli stuff.

Thank you, I gave Myrons moped an email. I hope he has what I need
