Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

I'm getting around to finish putting last year's ex-frankenbike back to a stock setup. I traded a Carabella V1 for a sort of rebuilt NOI, then I bought a cheapie pan exhaust that bolts onto the motor rather than a long pipe because the bracket was cut off, instead of getting a $100 pipe first and then paying a welder to make and attach the bracket.

I'm looking to connect the starter clutch cable and I see no place for the tension adjuster on the engine or frame, like what a Minarelli V1 has.

Can anyone with a Garelli show some pics of where the tension adjuster connects?

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

its on the right side forward motor mount. the cable runs diag across over the top of the engine

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

Is that a separate piece that can bolt onto the motor mount? I have no such piece and will probably have to make something.

Hes talking about where the cable mounts on the bottom end. The actual adjuster is on the lever at the starter lever on handle bar as seen here...

And the lower mounting bracket Will speaks of is here circled in purple...

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

Remove the gray floor board above where the motor sits and you will see it on the frame.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

I still may have to rig something up because I don't see any such animal there.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

Yeah that is weird you dont have one. Gonna have to get crafty. But make sure it is held on the opposite side of motor from the clutch. It needs to pull across the motor to pull the arm properly.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

easy, just drill a big hole in a lil 1 inch piece of steel to bolt onto that motor mount and drill a hole thru for a barrel adjuster to receive the cable housing and you're gtg

That may be what was used originally from the factory on earlier models. From the looks of that Garelli it looks to be 1977 or older. Everything ive owned and worked on has been 1978 and up.

This guy! And his smart talk.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

Update:

I narrowed the model to a Eureka Flex or a Gran Sport from the models in the photo section. The engine I have after trading another member a Carabela V1 is an NOI, which should just bolt right up, right?

With that starter clutch cable bracket issue and a couple bent motor mount locations, I dropped the bike and engine off at my favorite mom and pop vintage motorcycle shop back in OCTOBER because the owner has both torches and a milling machine to do anything I would need.

He just flipped the bike upside down to work on it. From its upright position, I couldn't tell how thick the metal was, so I assumed I would need torches. The metal isn't much thicker than sheet metal, so he was able to bend it with a pair of PLYERS.

When he tried to install the engine, he couldn't get the bolt holes in the frame to line up with the engine. He's also concerned that the top of the SHA 14:12. Will hit the frame.

Any thoughts or hints will be appreciated.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

Garelli NOI and minerelli V1 engines are totally different aren't they?...different manufacturers for different bikes. I don't think the mounts are the same at all.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

Totally different. This is how it looked when I got it. It came with almost all the parts to put it back to a Garelli. A previous owner extend the shocks, installed a Carabela tank and swing arm, and added metal to lower the motor by several inches. I would have given anything to see this rolling down the toad pulling a wagon full of scrap metal to the recycling yard.

Re: Garelli NOI starter clutch cable issue

The garellis ive had has the carb pointing forward. Kinda tight but fit fine.

The vip engine has them out to the side or sometimes backward if there is room with the frame.
