A3k Kickstart Mechanism

That's the kickstart mechanism re-built, and the magneto cover installed......anyone know if there should be a gasket, or seal, between the cover and the crankcase ?.....can't see why there should be, as there is no oil in there.....it's just that there is about an 1/8" gap between the two surfaces, unless it's not sitting correctly.......

There should be locator pins it should be flush.

Re: A3k Kickstart Mechanism

Yes, on other mopeds I've re-built, Honda, Aprilia etc. they have locator lugs.....this Tomos don't seem to have any....begining to wonder if the flywheel is tightened up properly, and is maybe sitting a bit proud.......further investigations I reckon..... (edited)

Re: A3k Kickstart Mechanism

Just discovered why the casing wasn't sitting properly.....one of the three wires from the magneto is not sitting in the recess in the crankcase.......problem solved !!

Re: A3k Kickstart Mechanism

We now got a working, fully operational kickstart, and all lights working, one small problem, the brake light is ON all the time, just looking at the switches on the brake levers.

Cracked resistor block in taillight housing if not the wiring or switches.

If they didn't make the things out of bakalite. Gets like eggshells then if the taillight wiring is freying the ground short overheats then and the solder points melt or it cracks.

It's not a problem if you don't have an ht coil with an override. It just keeps the brake light on instead of resisting it to the running light.
