Vespa Pinasco gear box assembly issues.

Chris Carleton /

Assembling this Pinasco trans housing using the Treats trans rebuild kit. Kit includes 5 small shim washers that when installed cause the tranny to bind up.

Used the rebuild tutorial in the wiki which stated that the washers were omitted. I tried 2 gaskets but still bound up. Are these a required part of the assembly?

You are supposed to have thrust washers on either side of the gears. Don't leave them out, as they will wear out the journals.

Throw some photos up, but typical there are other reason when these are binding.

The shims are there for if your case is worn. Almost all of the gearboxes I have taken apart have like 3-4 shims, the one on the weird thrust washer on the input, maybe one on the inside of the input. And then the two around the output shaft/drive gear.
