Help! Suzuki FZ50 won't start

Hi,

I recently acquired a Suzuki FZ50 that hadn't been used for a few years. I'm having a hard time getting it to start. I've never worked on a two-stroke bike before. Below are the things that I have done:

1, put in fresh gas

2, put in fresh 2-stroke oil

3, replaced the spark plug

4, cleaned the carb

5, set the air mix on the carb to the original setting (1 and 3/4 turns)

6, installed a new battery

The motor turns over. It has compression. I'm getting a spark (pulled the plug and held it next to the crankcase). There is fuel in the float bowl. The cylinder is not flooding. But if I pull the plug after a few failed attempts to kick start it, it's wet. I'm not getting any combustion.

Y'all have any ideas?

Steven Bolduc /

Maybe crank seals, those are tough motors.

You didn't mention checking the air filter.

Re: Help! Suzuki FZ50 won't start

The other Steven (Bolduc) is right, could need case seals. My FZ50 had similar symptoms, so I had to do a top end job, but especially, replace the rings and hone the cylinder. I betting you have compression issues. Also, I ran mine on premix until I knew what was up, to limit variables.

Thanks for the advice. Where's a good place to buy crank seals for this motor?

Partzilla was pretty good when I needed stuff
