Garelli Gran Sport Dies When Hot

A friend of mine has a 1976 Garelli Gran Sport that is completely stock. When it gets warmed up it just cuts out while idling and can’t start back up until it cools down a bit. It’ll run fine when it’s hot, it just can’t idle or it dies. What could the cause be? It starts and runs fine when cold.

Moped Lar (OFMC) /

Bad condenser.

Re: Garelli Gran Sport Dies When Hot

Is there a way to test the condenser before replacing it?

Re: Garelli Gran Sport Dies When Hot

No way to accurately test the condenser as it fails once it gets hot. But they are one of the cheapest and easiest fixes. Just need a flywheel puller to get that off. Cut the wires from the condenser and splice in the ones for your new one. But get an inline condenser that you can mount outside of the plate. Lots of info around here on what good replacement to get and where/how to mount it.
