Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

we just followed the line of the sidecover + cut out the circle!

I still have to notch out the cover for the 3 tabs so it sits flush to the engine side but am very happy w how it came out.

Adam Russell's work at its finest.

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

What did you use for the inner cover you mounted the pull start to

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

18gauge steel

its not as precise as it could be but it is much better than using a hobbit flywheel cover(edited)

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

bump. and thanks for all the info.

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

oh man. i love looking at old Ed threads.

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

Thanks^

As a final add to this thread, I wanted to add this info to this thread as some may be wondering why there sprockets are dished or non dished/flat.

Here is to two different shims for the sprockets that come on the derbi flatreeds oldstyle. This shim is behind the sprocket.

Here is a thread in the b/s about derbi sprockets. Check your shim/sprockets.

https://mopedarmy.com/forums/read.php?2,3951413,3953120#msg-3953120

The thin shim came on mopeds with a dished rear sprocket. .550-.552ish

The thick shim came on mopeds with a flat rear sprocket. .748-.750ish

Happy Derbi!

Bump

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

Once I get back in a shop I plan to build another awesome derbi. Thanks for the bump. There is ton of amazing info this thread that someone should really use to start a wiki page.

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

It's good to see Ed posting again.

He's definitely one of the top 10 Builders with true knowledge on this form.

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

Back in the day, I was the best until people get jealous of me. If it can be modded I did it. I learn a lot from the Argentina people. Thanks a lot Sean.(edited)

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

I will be contacting you sooooon

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

Ok, just send me a pm. Thanks.

Quick did someone figure out a one-way needle bearing to install into the clutch bell that would let you push start it. Then you wouldn't have to run the starter clutch pads or the costly pull starter from spain?

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

The one way needle bearing works pretty good but you need the one that has the needle rollers on the side if you want it to last any amount of time the only problem with that setup is if your engine seizes the rear wheel locks up which can cause a lot of Havoc if you're on the road on a corner and there's oncoming traffic it might not be the greatest thing in life to have happen.

Re: Derbi flatreed engine un/restricted

See this all should be in wiki.

^Thanks^ for the link.

Sean, go to know^ Thanks
