love me some 2t diesel!
love me some 2t diesel!
I used fiberglass on on a tank once. It looked perfect! Then about 2 days after I paired it I was like shit what is that bubble! sure enough the fiber glass pipes clean off the metal! I hope you don’t have the same luck. I was super butthurt.
That happened to me twice. It sucks! Glad u mentioned it I have a caulk gun of epoxy resin I’ll skim the top coat and edges. It’ll be sealed over with car paint, but that polyester resin turns to gum under oil and gas. Nice and solid today!
It’s shaping up
The painting dude told me to glass the weld joints so my flux core don’t pop it up. That’s for sheetmetal tho I think, where a patched car door could flex with temperature change, or putting body filler on too thick fucks up paint.
Glad I got a minute to fill this pipe and sleeve diameter differences. Wrapped around a bunch of times. yeah, the best tank so far, after welding and grinding, I painted the joints with jbweld.
Got out the epoxy stash. Anchoring gel, for glueing metal to concrete. Saturate a glass sheet with this shit. :)
The fender is from 3 bikes. The bottom piece was a Harley-Davidson front fender, the middle piece is from a schwinn chopper bicycle and the top piece I cut the middle and skinnied it up, was from a Chinese motorcycle. Close enuff hahaa!
Check out my moped buddy Rick’ems glass concoction, fuckers trying to out do my bike!
I got him this time. Check it tho, this fuxtik built a damn body kit all the way around using cardboard and tape. It’s like 7 layers thick u can stand on it. Fuuuck ton of work
Held on with fasteners. They didn’t have a body kit for the car so he got something he liked, a front bumper cover and valance, glassed it in covering where the headlights used to be. Pretty neat Ricky! Not a moped tho dickhead.
That was a good ideaR switching over to epoxy, just in time too. I mixed the parts together then sloshed some acetone into the batch. Heck yeah it went on like pancake batter with a brush. Layed the last piece over the whole thing then brushed on more to fill it in. Telling by the brush I used bristles hardened already.
Cures in 4 hours solid. I bashed it with a hammer to test, it’s badass! Like heavy carbon fiber hard. Then I layed strips over the weld joints and off to the side to transition the pipe thicknesses. Shave this pile, it has cured all night then 3 or 4 more layers by the time it’s full.
The tube of epoxy is 6 years old, part of the caulking tube nozzle broke. Should I JBweld it?
Found more information on the juice. Says 3 year shelf life hahaa! It came from the local Nu-Way concrete store a couple miles away. Prolly expensive af, but dude epoxy for days.
It sands easy enuff with 60 grit shredding the off all, could be stepped down with finer paper then polished I guess.
Needs a few more layers in the crevice.(edited)
thats a fuck-ton of work. it sounds easy but that building up and sanding is tedious work but the bike is gonna look real nice. hell it already looks nice just smoothed out like that. great work scooter!
Sweet! I've used epoxy and fiberglass to reinforce those irreplaceable moped plastics. It's a lot of work, but obviously your project was more.
(2k posts in this thread! Epic!)
Damn Scoot! That looks great...I get impatient just bondo-ing and painting a tank...super impressed! This is awesome!

Right on.... it is so nice
And here I was thinking it was going to forever look like trash.
I’ve thought it was hot since day 1......... trash? Bro, let’s see you engineer and build, from the ground up, anything on the same level. ScooterT is crushing it, it looks sooo good! So smooth that the pic looks like a digital rendering
What I meant was... I thought it could never look sooo smooooth. In no way was I trying to attack this work of art. I figured he'd just prime and paint. But This steeped it up another level! This thread is probably one of the, if not the best thread on MA...(edited)
