aWwwvMman, The Bluetooth spring is only 99 cents more sukkahhh!

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

What sucks is that I have a hydraulic self contained cable coming and no need for it now.

Hmmmm.

Maybe use it for a cable brake swap?

Hell yes I was looking at that too!

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

Finished it today.

Floating assembly so no binding at all, and it shifts as you'd imagine.

Shifting 1st to 2nd I have to have my foot on the lever or sometimes it'll skip 2nd and jump to 3rd.

I could fix that with a stronger spring but I don't wanna eat power.

More pics to see it all in case you wanna make one. It was pretty easy.

You can even make your own HDPE block out of melted bottles, that's fucking cool as hell.

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

More testing today.

It's really fun.

I need one or 2 more gears cut in on top. It's a little too weird now with only 4 gears then a vague 5th-6th.

As you're riding, you can pull the hand lever quick, it'll just lock you in wherever gear you are in automatically, or as the lever is pulled, kick the launch lever a bit for a downshift. If you have a lever that works with upshift too you can nudge the shift anywhere you want.

I bet it would be so much fun with a high rpm kitted ripper moby. I should kit this sometime.

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

i just was reading about some 90's era MTD riding lawnmowers that had a selectable 'automatic' transmission that was some kinda detented CVT

i dunno how it works yet, i gotta do some more digging. apparently the lawnmowers were shit so i am hoping i can find a broken one this summer fall into my lap and see what the mechanism looks like.

these 'pat-locker' designs you are working on are pretty neato

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

Noooo not the PaTLOCk

NooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

check out this patented pat-a-vator pat-a-mower

Its actually kinda rad, if i can find one i'm gonna scoop it. it would probably handle being over-driven so might be good for a kids go kart or something(edited)

i think that's the wrong link.

Fixed!

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

That pulley is what crazy wayne and scooter have been all yapping about. They love em. I haven't tried one yet

I did redo my left hand controls,

Now the gear shift is in the bottom below the brake, I can disable it if I want at the lever with a nail wedging the lever.

Then the hydraulic varibrake lever assembly is above the brake lever.

It sure is fun to patshif

Graham, that pulley part is $30ish. I have the part number and stuff. It’s the exact pulley I have on the V Twin hobbit concoction. I like the spring a lot Jbot, I could use it on the swinging pulley when I get that far.

G, the bottom pulley is that mtd thing with a jog pulley welded to the shaft with the boss and drive face on backwards.

It was on a single speed transmission variated troy-built. the axle is neat too.

Found some junk jibr. Vespa contra in a shock base. Hacked the old spring, it shot across the shed and lost the other end. An old tubing flaring tool clamped on, could be stripped and modified like part of ur drawing.

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

Having a manual locking assembly on variation is so different and fun on a high revving bike.

That looks perfect. Just make some straight cut notches in the shaft and a guillotine chopper in some kinda assembly and you're ready for bear.

One could use an entire shock, as long as the shaft could be removed.

Cut a slot in the outer housing for the chopper, and some kind of mount for its fulcrum point.

Can't wait to see what you come up with. Just remember that the shift points are really small. Each gear I made was only 1/8 wide, with a 1/8 gap.

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

The "clamping" design on the shaft didn't work well enough in my first design, not enough area to easily clamp.

But the guillotine chopper gear selector works funtastic

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

woah yeah crazy cool, ok yeah i guess i'm late to the party as usual. I bet if i keep an eye out for some scrap mowers i can find the whole thing for 30 bucks with other goodies.

got mah farm, time to start piling up junk in the weeds!

Here’s a complete pulley, 6203 bearings side by side in the pillow block prolly needs replaced. Dust it off with a wire wheel.,

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

pssh i aint payin no real innernet money for that junk plus i'm gonna want all of it with the motor side an everything else and some sweet moped mud tahrs to boot

i was mostly just posting it because pat patatakisisis sez he invented it and here i found it under a 30 year old junk lawnmower... you beat me to the punch..

i wanna find some of those peerless gearboxes too and see if i can cut them up and make anything coooool 5 speed gear shifted snowblower cycle...

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

That’s not a variator, this is a variator!

Re: Motobecane scooter spring and variator brake assembly

What is inside the black rubber part?

I actually don't know. It's a golf cart part that was in stuff I was helping a friend move. He said it's similar to the Comet units?
