A35 top end speed?

Hey guys,

I have a 1987 Tomos top tank noped with an A35 engine (previous owner switch).

Current setup - stock A35, stock Dellorto carb, 27/22 gearing, Biturbo exhaust, 60 jet, K&N air filter, oil injection deleted.

However, the bike takes quite a few kicks to start (10-15) and I am only able to reach around 33-34mph max.

According to the wiki I should be hitting closer to 40 mph.

No air leaks, spark is good, carb is clean. Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: A35 top end speed?

So it still has the 14.12 carb on it? How are you checking your speed? Speedometer or GPS?

Re: A35 top end speed?

sounds like an air leak, does it idle?

timing or bad points will also make it hard to start and could limit your top speed

most people that think they go 40 on a stock tomos go 33-35

Re: A35 top end speed?

What is the compression reading ?

Re: A35 top end speed?

Yes, stock carb. Using a GPS speedometer app on my phone.

Once it starts it idles fine. No air leaks, checked myself and had a friend who is a mechanic check as well. All good there.

Not looking to go crazy fast on a stock just wish 35-40 range was realistic.

Might have to check the timing and points again I suppose.

Thank you for your response.(edited)

I don’t have a compression tester so can’t tell you the reading unfortunately.

It does have enough to blow my thumb off when kicked.

Re: A35 top end speed?

Your mechanic friend has a compression tester .

He does, however, I’m not sure when I will see him next, he lives a good distance away.
