How fast have you gone with a 70cc Kstar and what setup?

Just seeing what speeds you guys are getting with the 70cc Kstar kit and what setups do you run? I'm running a 70cc Kstar with 15mm Bing, #74 jet, stock Puch head, techno boss pipe with 16/42 gearing and it gets my 1980 Puch Maxi Luxe to 50 mph on flat roads

Re: How fast have you gone with a 70cc Kstar and what setup?

That's moving pretty good for that set up. I'd say you are probably getting above average speeds. Good job!

57 on 16x45 with a 19phbg and a 6p. Just a little exhaust widening and chopping 2mm off the intake skirt gets you some nice power.

How is it on hills? I just finished a 70cc treats with a touring head, 15mm bing #79 jet, proma circuit pipe, 15/45 gearing on an 84 Maxi. I pull good up steep hills but am topping out at 31 on the flats. I want to change the pipe but I live on a steep hill.

31 is terrible for that gearing, you arent revving like you should. You should be doing just about 40-41 with that gearing and setup properly tuned.

Did you verify your timing with a light?

Re: How fast have you gone with a 70cc Kstar and what setup?

I can get mine to 30 going uphill. Kstars when tuned right just rocks! However I have to run slightly rich and keep my rpms below 9500 as I'm still using the stock crank

Re: How fast have you gone with a 70cc Kstar and what setup?

My speeds are actual gps mph not indicated mph btw. I use a speedometer gps app on my iphone to measure my true speed. Gps'd confirmed 50 mph on the flats and 25-30 up steep hills. I only did 50 one time for a few seconds then slowed down right after in order to avoid damaging the stock crank and bushings(edited)

I mean with that gearing your still turning a lot of revs. It is a way better than being pegged at 35 turning 10K. I would tune it so it is not rich and just stay out of the top end for long periods of time you should be fine. Leaving it rich will make you go through plugs and ware you rings out quicker. Excess carbon = bad.(edited)

Yes, I also used a dial indicator to find tdc so unless my light is off its spot on. I did find that with the points set to .016 even with dremeling the stator I can't get below 17 degrees, I set the points to around .014 and got the timing down to 15 but it ran poorly. I plan on getting a tach and probably a different pipe.

Thanks, its gotta be in my tune, although it runs and sounds great, I need to get a tach, and with what you are telling me for speeds I'll change the pipe too. I also used gps and couldn't believe how slow it is.

Re: How fast have you gone with a 70cc Kstar and what setup?

Yeah the boss pipe really can rev out. It comes in late tho and my bottom end is almost nonexistant, but above low 30s or so the pipe hits the powerband and pulls good all the way to the top. I haven't tuned my clutch shoes yet that is why my bottom end suffers. I use a temp gauge on my Puch and it's always in the 265-340 range
