An airbox is a hollow chamber mounted to the intake side of the carburetor. It Is usually made of plastic and performs two basic tasks, the first of which is to house the air filter the second of which is to quiet intake noise which can in some cases be nearly as loud as exhaust. Often airboxes are modified or removed completely to improve air flow. If this is done, one must upjet and find a new way of mounting the air filter if necessary.
